JACK MILLS

​​Jack Mills is an economic security specialist and instructor based in the South China Sea region. As a a member of ACAMS, he is a certified global sanctions specialist. He is also an education entrepreneur privately tutoring economics to international students from Hong Kong, China, Panama, Brazil, Argentina, St. Lucia, the United States and the United Kingdom. Additionally, Jack  provides boutique graphic design and business development services to a range of international clients. From education to design and from compliance to development, Jack integrates the use of incentives, interactive skills training, creative iteration, goal directed organization, and rational optimism in a relentless pursuit of productivity and excellence in all projects. 

COMPLIANCE

Through the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) Jack is designated as a certified global sanctions specialist (CGSS); courses in his training included: Streamlining Investigations for Crypto-Related Financial Crime, Disambiguating Entities with Identical Names, Exploring the Intersection of Ransomware, Crypto, and Sanctions Risks, Fighting Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking, Enhancing Financial Inclusion with a Risk-Based Approach, Ending Illegal Wildlife Trade – A Practical Guide for Law Enforcement. He attended the ACAMS AML & Anti-Financial Crime Symposium (Hong Kong 2023). 

In addition ACAMS, Jack has an in-depth knowledge of the compliance requirements of the USA PATRIOT ACT, and has attended multiple Sayari training webinars on topics including export controls, tracing the flow of fentanyl & chemical precursors into the United States, and on understanding supply chain tiers in evolving compliance landscapes.

INSTRUCTION

 

Jack's students have been accepted to top-tier universities including Stanford University, Tsing Hua University, the University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic, along with summer programs at Harvard and Yale. Given the diverse academic needs of his students, Jack has spent years honing his expertise in A-Level, IGCSE, IB, and AP microeconomic and macroeconomic curriculum to fully prepare students for exceptional performance in their global examinations.

Through focusing on the mastery of foundational concepts in economics first, and through clear identification of knowledge gaps followed up with essential drilling, students who struggle initially are able to attain full marks on their exams. 

 

Further, Jack fosters critical thinking, independent study and preparation for university and working life by providing abundant free resources, expert academic advice and a professional but fun work atmosphere in every online session.

Prior to specializing in economics, Jack has business English to a number of Hong Kong based ESL-expats in the finance community. It was through the interactions with these clients, where he developed an interest in the economics of compliance, particularly in anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing (AML/CTF) and in global sanctions. 

DEVELOPMENT

 

Jack has delivered both design, fundraising and development services for a number of businesses and non-profits, including the Wildrose Party, the Fraser Institute, The Bon Mot Book Club, Buildingblocks Financial, Storring Media, MingArete, the IdeaLabGZ, and GreenCurve Environmental Services.

 

Private projects ranged from website redesigns and brand identity development to copywriting and sales presentations. Assisting non-profits, Jack was responsible for large donor prospect research, donor database management, and direct mail send-outs. 

 

Jack co-wrote the Chinese manufacturing sourcing guide "10 Secrets To Making New Cool Fun Stuff in China" with the IdeaLabGZ.

EDUCATION

 

In addition to his training as a sanctions specialist, Jack holds a BA in economics from the University of Calgary. He attended the Harvard University Extension School and was awarded a full scholarship to the Taipei School of Economics. 

 

A believer in continuous education, Jack earned a certificate in graphic design from the Alberta College of Art + Design and has completed courses in development economics, supply side economics, and economic history through MRU and Hillsdale College. He uses Duolingo to study Chinese, Vietnamese, Spanish, or Math daily.
